Seniors sail into Semi Finals

The toughest match of the season was the seniors quarter final match against Wallace

The first quarter started with the girls settling into play. They passed well between them but were closely matched by Wallace’s defensive play, nevertheless the girls managed to win the quarter 3-1.

The second quarter remained close but the girls managed to stay ahead with many steals from Annabelle Kelly and Lizzie Little working well together to keep the ball at the academy’s attacking circle.

Finishing at half time with a score of 10-7 to the academy. The girls pushed through the tiredness and managed to gain a significant lead in the third quarter with great defensive play coupled with good circle rotation and shooting from Lynsey Orr, katie cartmill, Gemma Hassan and Sarah Mccandless. This finished the quarter with a score of 17-11.

The final quarter was the toughest quarter as the girls were tiring which allowed Wallace to gain a few steals. Although the girls managed to finish the match with a final score of 20-17.

Special congratulations to Anabelle Kelly who got player of the match.

Intermediates lose to Thornhill 23-7

In the first quarter Thornhill took the lead and despite great efforts from Zara and Hannah in defence, the first quarter was left at 5-2 to Thornhill.
The second quarter was very tough and frustrating for the girls, with great interceptions and accurate passes from Alex. Unfortunately Thornhill scored 7 more goals leaving the second quarter at 12-3.
In the third quarter we were starting to find our feet, scoring some great goals and having several good interceptions from Annie but we weren’t able to take the lead. Thornhill scored 6 more goals while we only scored 2, leaving the third quarter 18-5 to Thornhill.

The last quarter was very full on, with both teams coming so close to goals and then being intercepted. Despite our efforts the final score was left at 23-7 to Thornhill.

Hard luck girls and well done to the player of the match, Katie Baxter!!

Minors lose to Ballymena Academy in the Quarter Finals of Plate

Banbridge Academy minors played against Ballymena Academy on Wednesday 12 December. It was a very well played match, and everyone was very supportive of one another, Despite all the girls amazing work, Ballymena managed to win 15-3.
The first quarter was very fast paced, defence stayed close to their attackers and attackers getting in front of their defenders. The score resulting at 3-3, scored by both Paris Travers (GS) and Alana Burns-Atkins (GA).
The second quarter Ballymena academy picked up their defence, but we did not give up.  Aimee Dawson (WD) Eve Fitzsimmons (GD) Georgia Frazer (GK) and Katherine Otley (C) all had a big roll in this quarter, making some good interceptions. Ballymena ended up scored another 3, making it 6-3 to Ballymena Academy.
In the third quarter, everyone was working very hard to get the ball. We made use of the techniques used in games and club but Ballymena were very quick with the ball and hard to shadow. Again some great interceptions made inside and outside the circle. Score being 10-3 Ballymena.
In the final quarter, everyone was ready and on the ball, using change of direction, circle rotation and other techniques. Final score, 15-3 Ballymena.
Everyone was very determined and showed a lot of support to one another.
Player of the match was Georgia Frazer (GK) 👏
Well done girls.

Intermediate Team Beat St Patricks 23-10

The match got off to a slow start with keady getting the first 2 goals however the girls found their feet with successful steals from Zara(GD) and Hannah(GK) in the circle, making the score at the end of the first quarter 5-3.

In the second quarter the girls got off to a great start with great shooting from Nadia(GA) and Emily(GS) and good attack from Alex(C) and Katie(WA) leaving the score to be 12-4.

In the third quarter we made some changes with Evie coming on as GS and Annie coming on as GK. This quarter was a little rocky to start off with, when keady upped their game and stole 3 balls from us but we reacted quickly with great defence from Zeta(WD) and Zara(GD) and very accurate shooting from Evie(GS), making the score 18-6 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the last quarter we gave it our all with great passes from the defence to the attack, there was great play from Annie(GK) in the circle putting pressure on the GS from keady and good controlled passes from Alex(C) and Katie(WA) into the circle with really accurate shooting from Nadia(GA), leaving the end score to be 23-10.

Well done to Zeta who is the player of the match!!

Congratulations to the team on winning, they now play Thornhill, Londonderry with hopes of advancing to the Quarter Finals after Christmas, Good luck girls!

A win to the Seniors against St Malachy’s Castlewellan

The girls started off the first quarter strong with accurate passing and multiple steals, working the ball up the court to Gemma and Katie who proceeded to covert the steals in to goals. Finishing the first quarter with a score of 6-2 to Banbridge academy.

The girls remained consistent within the second quarter with numerous steals from Lizzie Little although St Malachys started to put on pressure resulting in a tight score of 10-8 to Banbridge Academy at the end of the first half.

After a few changes, Rachel Ward into Wing Attack and Lynsey Orr into Centre the girls played an outstanding quarter working well together to push ahead of St Malachys fuelled by the addition of new players.

Lizzie Little and Annabelle Kelly worked well to remove the ball from the defensive third and subsequently Aofie McNally assisted with many interceptions allowing the attacking players to build upon the lead. The third quarter’s result clearly showed this finishing with a score of 17-11.

In the last quarter the girls continued to play to an excellent standard and showed great determination, resulting in a finishing score of 22-15.

Special congratulations to Gemma Hassan who was awarded player of the match.
